Summary of the Career Fair

An attendee of the Career Fair provided a quick summary of what was discussed in the fair: I learned a lot from the Virtual Career Fair session that was held from Monday to Thursday last week. I was only able to attend 3 of the 4 days (Monday to Wednesday), but even so I learned a great deal. The fair went over many jobs and how different professions in different fields require you to know and what they really do. The first day included technical professionals, like a tuba player for the military, a pilot, and many others who provided their insight on how they got their job and their journey to that job. The second day was also very interesting, which was primarily people in healthcare (medical professionals). That day, there was a biomedical engineer who builds and flies drones that delivers medical supplies to poorer communities with no doctors or pharmacies in their vicinity. There was also a medical coder and a midwife who helps people with their newborn child. The third day, which...

Impactful Crime (Part 2)

Essay made by J.W.- Impact of Crime Essay- Community Service By J.W. submitted on June 18, 2020 My offense impacted my life, my community, and my family cause it was many things we had to. My parents had driven to Deerfield to do the intake. My parents also had to drive to Fort Lauderdale to meet with someone from Civil Citation.  My offense impacted me in many ways because of those meetings I was late to school on both of the days. I was assigned a Youth counselor and I have group meetings every Wednesday and I needed someone to come pick me up and once a week do an individual meeting in Tamarac at the BSO station. Because of these meetings my after school life activities were interrupted. I played flag football for Dillard 6-12 and missed a lot of practices so I could not play in a lot of games. I went from a starter in my favorite sport to not being able to play at all. The impact of my crime had a good impact on me in a sense, because it helped me control my anger so next time ...

Impactful Crime (Part 1)

Here are two essays written on how a crime changed the life of these two individuals (called N.A. and J.W.): Impact of My Crime Essay By N. A. My case impacted my life in many ways. My case also impacted my parent’s life. My parents are impacted by my crime because they have to pay for my actions and use time out there days to do what has to be done by the parent in the program, such as attending parent meetings and making sure I attend my meetings. My case impacted me by opening my eyes a lot. Being involved in this crime has shown me to watch the people I hang around. I really think being involved in this crime has made me a better person and I hope to never have to be in this situation again .At first my parents were very mad at me and disappointed, but through improving my behavior and doing what I need to after a while they began to slowly forgive me and give me more freedom, I began to regain their trust. My mom felt like I hurt her a lot because she never thought I’ll do somethi...

Essay on Current Events

An essay made by a participant of the program concerning current events:  George Floyd has become the face of a global movement. His story has exposed a big part of what has been wrong with American society: racism and police brutality. Recent movements have been led by, according to the New York Times, a combined total of about 15 million to 26 million people participating in protests across all of the United States, making it one of the largest movements in all of American history. This all began on May 25, 2020 when George Floyd, a 46 year old black man, supposedly was using a counterfeit bill and while he was getting arrested, was killed by the arresting police officer, Derek Chauvin, after he put his knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly 8 minutes. The horrendous part of all this being that, while Floyd was stuck under Chauvin’s knee, he was pleading for his life and uttering the words that lead the protests we know of today: “I can’t breathe”. Floyd’s death consequently led to the ...
